Bucksburn and District Pipe Band is 70 years of age. 9th November 1947, the second Sunday in November nearest to the 11th November. Armistice Day marked the first engagement of Bucksburn and District Pipe Band when four founding members; David C. Duncan, George Cruickshank, James S. Brown and William Maitland led the Bucksburn British Legion Armistice Parade.
Within its 70 years of history the Band has always respected what it stands for, the foundations on which it was built upon; friendship and its members. A testament to all who have donned a Bucksburn and District Pipe Band uniform and why we celebrate 70 years of history.
The Band kick started their celebrations with a memorable Platinum Dinner and Dance on Saturday 18th March with old friends, embraced new ones and remember those no longer here with fond memories, laughter and dance.
After the bands oldest member, Bobby Forrest and our current youngest member Matthew Touch cut the 70th cake, the nigh started with the Novice Juvenile band playing guests into the Ballroom at the Douglas Hotel followed by a joyful performance from our “Old band” members ending with the current Grade 2 band playing part of their 2017 Platinum medley. After a wonderful 3 course meal, the night followed with the Graham Geddes Dance Band. A night firmly etched in the bands history book.
Seventy years is a significant milestone in the life of Bucksburn and District Pipe Band but it is only a milestone. The future lies in the recruitment, encouragement, musical teaching and the passing on of well learned expertise in pipe band instruments and culture to the next generations. There will lie the strength and legacy of our Band.
